Which are the actors that was a part of the original cast?

Since they are going to start shooting a whole new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with fourteen new episodes i must tell you about the original cast since most of them has declined to be a part of the new season unfortunately. Since a dedicated an entire post here about Joel Hodgson i will not write about him in this post even though he is one of the creators. So i am going to tell you about the actors and creators behind MST3K, Michael J Nelson, Trace Beaulieu, Kevin Murphy, Frank Conniff, Bill Corbett, Mary Jo Pehl and J Elvis Weinstein in this order also, so lets start with Michael!

Michael J Nelson
An american comedian and he is most known for writing the series. He was the head writer of the show and was also a part in it. He played the on-air host with his name, Mike Nelson. Fun facts about Michael is that he worked as a waiter and was doing a little bit of stand up when he was offered a part on the show. How life can works sometimes! It’s crazy.

Trace Beaulieu
Trace is both a writer and an actor. He is also a puppeteer and in the show he operated and did the voice for Crow T. Robot! He wrote fore the 8 first seasons on the show. He also had a role as a crazy scientist, Dr. Clayton Forrester. In season 7 some thing happened between the actors on the show and Beaulieu chose to leave the show completely.

Kevin Murphy
Kevin Murphy was the voice and puppeteer for the character Tom Servo on the show. Except for that he spent eleven years as a writer on the show. He replaced J. Elvis Weinstein who had operated Tom Servo from the beginning. In the last three seasons Murphy got an additional role as Professor Bobo, a gorilla how happened to speak English. Yeah, you already know how crazy this show is!

Frank Conniff
Frank Conniff is like all the men above a writer and actor. In the show he played Frank, also one of the mad scientists. Conniff was a part of the show from the second to the sixth season. He wrote some parts to, but his main role was the one as Frank.

Bill Corbitt
Bill who’s real name is William, no surprise, is an american actor and writer. He also did the voice for Crow T. Robot but only for the last season. That was the only part he played in the series, but he is as important like the rest of the gang.

Mary Jo Pehl
Mary Jo also did some of the writings to the MST3K series. She is also an actor and had several parts on the show. She was the voice in the beginning of the show that presented upcoming commercials. The role was called “magic voice” since nobody knew who it was at first. When Beaulieu had left the show Pehl also got to be one of the mad scientists.

J. Elvis Weinstein
Josh is most famous for his role as Dr. Laurence Erhardt and as the original voice for Tom Servo and Gypsy in the show. He was one of the founders/creators of the show when he was only seventeen. He left the show since the age gap between him and the other cast was so big and he did not feel good about that. A little sad since he was one the head writers.

Well now you know a little bit more about everyone on the show! We will have to wait and see if some of them shows up in the new season or if the cast is completely new!

Crow T. Robot

CrowTRobotOf course I have to say some things about the robots starring in MST3K, starting with Crow T. Robot. As you know, it’s a robot that Joel built, who together with Joel, Tom Servo, Gypsy and Cambot comments on B-movies. Joel created his robots so they could help him not to get mad watching the B-movies that scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester forced him to watch.

The T. in Crows name stands for “The” and in one episode Joel said that Crow stood for Cybernetic Remotely Operated women”. Crow got really upset and had an identity crisis until Joel revealed that he had built Crow to play tis joke on him.

Joel sometimes calls Crow for Art, which comes from an episode in which The Honeymooners where showed. Joel played a joke on Crow referring to co-star Art Carney. After a drawing sent in from a child who didn’t get the Art Crow-joke and labeled the drawing as Art, the joke became recurring in the series.

The voice actor was from the beginning Trace Beallieu, but from the eight season Crow was voiced by Bill Corbett. In the revival Crow will be voiced by Hampton Yunt. Do you remember him announcing“Ladies and Gentlemen, Topo Gigio” in the earlier season? Well, that was the voice if Ed Sullivan.

Crow was the only one of the robots that visited Deep 13, where the scientist worked and later lived. In the final episode Dr.Forrester shut down Deep 13. That was after his fundings was cut and then he moved back in with his mother. It will be interesting to see the return in the revival.

Crow often take the appearance of the characters in the movie as part of the jokes.

Perhaps you didn’t know that the original Crow actually was built by Joel Hodgson himself in one night, just before filming the pilot episode? The puppet was later redesigned to the present appearance.
